Celebrating Under-Told Stories: Writing Workshop & Reading
University of Winnipeg, Bulman Student Centre, 7:00 pm
This event is FREE, fully accessible and open to anyone! Genderfest Winnipeg would like to thank both The Institute for Women’s and Gender Studies at The University of Winnipeg and The Women’s and Gender Studies Department at The University of Winnipeg for their support!
This workshop invites participants to explore under-told or “marginal” stories from their personal experience and/or from the world around them, and to develop strategies to creating safe and celebratory spaces for these stories to be heard. Whether participants are interested in formally writing, blogging or sharing their stories and opinions, or simply speaking-up in day-to-day situations, this workshop will offer peer-driven idea-building and practice on being heard.Amber Dawn will read from her upcoming book “How Poetry Saved My Life: A Hustlers Memoir” and lead participants through a series of free-writing exercise, small group work, and brainstorming discussions. Participants should come prepared with an open-mind, and pen and paper. Shy people, welcome.
